PROJECT STATEMENT:<br />
The Gannett/USA Today Headquarters is an ecologically diverse refuge in the rapidly developing business and retail center of Tysons Corner, Virginia. The landscape architect developed a site strategy that seamlessly weaves the indoor and outdoor spaces into a campus of extensive roof gardens and terraces, riparian plantings and preserved woodlands. This project demonstrates the exceptional value of thoughtful site design and site repair for the creation of a distinctive corporate campus.<br />

A comment from the ASLA Award 2008 Jury:<br />
"A new approach to corporate typology that feels more natural and organic. The landscape architect tells a story about the site, integrating the existing stormwater system and creating interplay with the green roof, a rich palette of trees at varying levels, and other amenities."<br />

This room of carefully stacked wood wasn’t built by creative urban beavers – it’s an art installation made up of the outer timber of the surrounding crumbling house. The site is one of many houses in Detroit slated for demolition, but once this house is torn down, the wood sculpture will remain. Designed by Catie Newell and The Imagination Station, the project aims to revitalize the area with creative assemblages like this one. Read on to learn more about these Rust Belt builders (who are decidedly human) . . .<br />

The Imagination Station is a new nonprofit whose first job is to clean up 2230 and 2236 14th street, two blighted structures on Roosevelt Park facing the epic ruins of Michigan Central Station in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood. The house on the right will be renovated into a community media center using sustainable green practices. The burned out shell of the house on the left will be disposed of and its boundaries used as a public art space. Through this process, the Imagination Station aims to create a replicable model of redevelopment fueled by traditional partnerships and grant practices, as well as new social media techniques for fund-raising, storytelling, and volunteerism.<br />

Community engagement will be an essential element every step of the way as we reclaim these properties for the benefit of our neighborhood.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5637602342017370844.post-43895481057863769082010-11-30T21:58:00.001-08:002010-11-30T22:01:28.742-08:00North burnham park Soldier Field, Chicago, IllinoisNorth Burnham Park, soldier field was design by Hoerr Schaudt landscape architects firm. The sculpted landforms of North Burnham Park / Soldier Field conceal the 2,500 underground parking spaces. The project added 17 acres of new parkland surrounding the Chicago Bears’ Soldier Field and include a children’s playground, a winter sledding hill, the winding entrance to game day, and a vantage point for the city skyline.<br />

The design team set goals that would be respectful of the context and the landscape, as well as conscious of resources and sustainability. Despite the quasi-urban setting, this effort resulted in a reduced footprint in the highly priced site and the adoption of the LEED for homes scale to ensure a sustainable path. The outside permeates the interior and the home is enveloped with natural light and views. Spacious and distinct exterior living spaces such as porches and balconies flow from within and reach out onto the landscape, providing environmentally sensitive solutions for a home in a tropical climate. Deeply rooted in its context, this project represents a milestone for residential sustainable design in South Florida, as the first home of its type to achieve silver LEED certification and Florida Green Building Coalition Gold Certification.<br />

The project is inspired by the European forest, which stood in the background as a witness to the devastating Holocaust.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMD9sk1myI/AAAAAAAAAIA/5eB4KtunO8s/s1600/1290805412-3d-2-1000x750.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" ox="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMD9sk1myI/AAAAAAAAAIA/5eB4KtunO8s/s400/1290805412-3d-2-1000x750.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMD_6nUHFI/AAAAAAAAAIE/5TPOVQIpijE/s1600/1290805391-3d-1-1000x494.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="197" ox="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMD_6nUHFI/AAAAAAAAAIE/5TPOVQIpijE/s400/1290805391-3d-1-1000x494.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
The thicket of poles creates a gradual transition between the lively Atlantic City Boardwalk and the new Holocaust Memorial. The poles act as a screen without defining a clear visual or physical boundary.<br />
<br />
Passing through the thicket, one reaches a clearing in the forest, dotted by tree stumps. The tree stumps symbolize the aggressive destruction and the massive murder of the Jewish people along with other communities; the abrupt stop of life.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMEcM8hVeI/AAAAAAAAAII/lrdbrjb5b30/s1600/qeweqwe.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" ox="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMEcM8hVeI/AAAAAAAAAII/lrdbrjb5b30/s400/qeweqwe.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
The field of stumps is a direct material continuation of its site, the boardwalk. Together with the field of glowing poles, the intervention gives a new interpretation to the boardwalk’s characteristic elements.<br />
<br />
The poles gain energy from the sun during daytime and glow at night. This self‐sufficient cycle is an expression of both hope and alert caused by unstoppable processes; it stands as a reminder of the repetitive pulse of history and of the human spirit.<br />
<br />
The new memorial is self‐sufficient, accessible and robust. It results in a new environment, which will accommodate diverse scales and types of gatherings and experiences.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5637602342017370844.post-25409561168773128692010-11-30T19:35:00.009-08:002010-11-30T19:35:48.621-08:00Samitaur Tower, Culver City, CaliforniaThe Samitaur Tower is an information tower, constructed at the corner of Hayden Avenue and National Boulevard immediately across from the new Expo light rail line arriving from downtown Los Angeles in June, 2011. That intersection is the primary entry point into the re-developed zone of Culver City.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMLn8mUTEI/AAAAAAAAAIM/qqq78ln8MuA/s1600/ST_North.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" ox="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMLn8mUTEI/AAAAAAAAAIM/qqq78ln8MuA/s400/ST_North.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMLrN3NNaI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/6uDvU5Ec-Rk/s1600/ST_Southwest.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" ox="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMLrN3NNaI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/6uDvU5Ec-Rk/s400/ST_Southwest.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><br />
Conceptually, the tower has both introverted and extroverted planning objectives. Internal to the burgeoning site area of new media companies, graphic designers, and general office tenants, the tower symbolizes' the advent of this important new urban development, provide a changing art display for local viewing, and offer a variety of graphic content and data on its five screens concerning coming events and current achievements of the tenants who occupy that part of the city. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMLtvPlzKI/AAAAAAAAAIU/KTYyxxFvLhA/s1600/ST_Garden-Amph2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" ox="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMLtvPlzKI/AAAAAAAAAIU/KTYyxxFvLhA/s400/ST_Garden-Amph2.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMLv4wR-TI/AAAAAAAAAIY/ezpGbHv-FM8/s1600/ST_Projection2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" ox="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMLv4wR-TI/AAAAAAAAAIY/ezpGbHv-FM8/s400/ST_Projection2.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><br />
Externally, the tower displays culturally significant content and local event information, along with art and graphic presentations of all sorts available to in-car audiences who pass the site area, traveling on a number of local thoroughfares in the Culver City / West Los Angeles area. In addition to the large number of cars passing the site, the Expo Line has an estimated ridership of 30,000 passengers per day with two local stops several blocks east and west of the site. The presence of the train riders guarantees an enormous daily audience of Tower art viewers, as well as an increase in pedestrians in the area, who will walk past the Tower from the train stops to local businesses.<br />

Great design by <a href="http://www.ericowenmoss.com/index.php?/content/office/">Eric</a>, bringing focal element, that people get really interested what is it about, I really recommend anyone who is interested in this kind of design form to check his <a href="http://www.ericowenmoss.com/">website</a>.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5637602342017370844.post-75266713042668015482010-11-30T19:35:00.008-08:002010-11-30T19:35:44.531-08:00Changi Airport Terminal 3 Interior Landscape, SingaporeThe site of Changi Airport, one of the busiest hubs in Asia is reclaimed from the sea. The interior space is a ten-story volume, with four functional levels arranged around a huge sky lighted atrium, the base of which is the arrival hall. The roof concept of ‘butterfly-winged’ skylights is a spectacular and dramatic architectural statement, flooding the interior with diffused light, regulated by sensors to control the heat load and ventilation of the immense space. The building is a conservatory for plants.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMONsRG9qI/AAAAAAAAAIc/TUqHr4ZjOEQ/s1600/043_08.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="308" ox="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMONsRG9qI/AAAAAAAAAIc/TUqHr4ZjOEQ/s400/043_08.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
The Airport's Master Plan envisioned the Terminal 3’s interior space as a continuation of the overall exterior airport gardens, drive and walkways, which are visible through the wide and tall glass 'skin' of the building. The green wall is a perfect example of how vertical planting could significantly affect overall interior ambiance with a small footprint in plan.<br />

<br />
I read her article and started reading more about the project and i find it interesting that the characteristic of this design illustrates such an inviting place to live in.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMSa9oUfvI/AAAAAAAAAIo/mlVgGlku8x8/s1600/Safari_03.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="221" ox="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMSa9oUfvI/AAAAAAAAAIo/mlVgGlku8x8/s400/Safari_03.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMSdDonrgI/AAAAAAAAAIs/Tkx0RDXGMI8/s1600/Safari_06.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="221" ox="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMSdDonrgI/AAAAAAAAAIs/Tkx0RDXGMI8/s400/Safari_06.jpg" width="400" /></a></div> Safari Drive reinvents the suburban form. The barrier of distance between the exclusively residential and commercial zones is compressed to a livable dimension. Potentially daunting in the context of low-lying suburbia, the massing of five story buildings is modulated to a human scale, graciously introducing a viable level of density in the midst of consumptive sprawl. Within its own bounds, the project is a self-sustaining, vibrant mixed-use urban neighborhood. Small commercial functions—live/work lofts and ground floor retail spaces—are mixed among the residential units, contributing a shared energy to the public spaces. <br />
<br />
Outdoor rooms, shaped and shaded by the enclosing buildings, are the organizing framework for the project. The experience of walking from home to shopping and beyond is not only protected from the intense desert elements, but enriched by a varied sequence of exterior spaces. Circulation is organized within a traditional urban grid, culminating at the heart of the site in a circular court shared by cars, pedestrians and outdoor dining. This deliberate blending of disparate activities fosters spontaneity and a rich public life. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMSuPjJPwI/AAAAAAAAAI0/5punyW3qHww/s1600/Safari_01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="177" ox="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMSuPjJPwI/AAAAAAAAAI0/5punyW3qHww/s320/Safari_01.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMSnxyFiCI/AAAAAAAAAIw/MQxoZdvuY1Q/s1600/Safari_07.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="177" ox="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPMSnxyFiCI/AAAAAAAAAIw/MQxoZdvuY1Q/s320/Safari_07.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Design response to the desert climate relies on the judicious use of thermal mass, deep overhangs, a high-performance thermal envelope, and naturally weathering, locally manufactured materials. Native, drought-tolerant landscaping is provided throughout the development. A “cool tower” passively cools a public courtyard with a simple, wind-driven technology borrowed from middle-eastern desert vernacular, and provides prospect and visual focus for the project. <br />
<br />
Project Size: 165 condominium units and amenities totaling approximately 325,000 gross square-feet of building area (Phase 1 and 2 combined) on a 4.81 acre site (34 units/acre). Completed Phase 1: 5 buildings; 95 condominium units (ranging from 800 square-feet to 2300 square-feet each), 17,000 square-feet of live work lofts and 10,000 square-feet of retail space. <br />
<br />
Safari Drive has been certified by Scottsdale's Green Building Program for Multi-Family Dwellings.<br />

The James Clarkson Environmental Discovery Center is envisioned as a place of learning, play, and gathering that seeks to open a window on the beauty and diversity of the natural world that exists in Southeast Michigan. The 70-acre center, located within Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority’s (HCMA) 2,215 acre Indian Springs Metropark is dedicated to the exploration and celebration of the natural environment. Situated at the headwaters to the Huron River, the interpretation of the area’s hydrology is articulated through the rehabilitation and creation of wetland, prairie, and forest ecosystems. These ecosystems establish an ecological vocabulary, revealing the influences and processes that shaped the Midwestern landscape. The center’s infrastructure elements are sited to optimize the visitor’s interaction with the natural world, while preserving and protecting its sensitive ecological areas and endangered species.<br />

Boston in the year 2010 is an exciting and diverse city with green areas, modern skyscrapers and nice urban areas with sloping streets and town houses in the Beacon Hill district with its proud traditions. <br />
<br />
According to Christian Bay-Jorgensen, it is important to hold on to the diversity when planning the new part of the town called South Boston in order not to end up with a dreary and uniform urban environment dominated by square boxes as often seen in big American cities. And that is exactly what he intends to achieve with Boston Fusion.<br />

“We have designed the building as a hilly countryside on 17 floors, where the top three floors are penthouse apartments extended into the roof surface. Below the apartments are offices, cafés, shops and open green squares and in addition there are sloping pathways twisting from the street level all the way to the rooftop. The idea is to create an intimate suburban idyll inside the construction and in this way develop a whole new version of the good life in an apartment house,” he says and continues:”Imagine that you step out into your own private garden on the 17th floor early in the morning and enjoy the rising sun, which reflects in the skyline and the water of the harbour. When you leave the apartment you are immediately part of the city flow – you step directly into an environment which is nice and alive – and you feel safe and sound,”<br />

It allows people to get outside of their normal lives and participate in a dynamic social event and enjoy the communal celebration. Deciding how to live our lives for a limited span of time might be something that each one of us needs to do, just to free ourselves from the constraints that we have in our lives. Creating your own environment is another way to illustrate yourself to others. This event is like a place that you go to free yourself and express yourself to others, with no boundaries and no limitations. It enables you to simply do whatever you want do with your own space in the city. Of course there are some rules around the city in order to ensure a peaceful environment.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", "serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%;">Landscape architects could think of this event as a positive environment with which people can participate. It could be an appropriate concept for a cohousing community that creates a special event once a year; an event that people use to remind themselves that one once each year, they can go out of their normal lives and participate in a special communal celebration. </span></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5637602342017370844.post-9939089563846138112010-11-30T19:35:00.003-08:002010-11-30T19:35:18.158-08:002010 Aga Khan Award: Bridge School, ChinaChinese Architect, Li Xiaodong was asked to design a small school for the village of Xiashi in the Fujian Province, and he had the idea to combine the school with a pedestrian bridge that connected two historic toulou (circular castles made from packed dirt). A creek runs right through the middle of the village and the toulou serve as important historical landmarks, so it made sense to locate the school at the physical heart of the village. As Xiaodong says, the concept resulted in “minimum intervention, yet maximum impact – to rejuvenate the whole community.”<br />

The school is constructed out of two large steel spans that cross the bridge and smaller steel supports and framing. Local materials and wood were used to create the facade, interior furnishings and school furniture. While the steel is very modern, especially in the context of a rural village, the material will last a long time while creating a structurally-sound school. The use of local materials helps the building blend texturally and aesthetically with the rest of the village.<br />

Catherine Slessor wrote an <a href="http://www.architectural-review.com/buildings/bridge-school-by-li-xiaodong-atelier-xiashi-fujian-province-china/5218319.article">article</a> about this project, she described it as "...an intelligent, contemporary take on the archetype of the inhabited bridge. Supported on concrete piers, the simple steel structure acts like a giant box girder that’s been slightly dislocated, so the building subtly twists, rises and falls as it spans the creek. Inside are a pair of almost identical, wedge-shaped classrooms, each tapering towards the mid point of the structure. Although it’s possible to use the building as a bridge, a narrow crossing suspended underneath the steel structure and anchored by tensile wires offers an alternative and more direct route."<br />

I believe this is a great design that respects the surrounding environment with this architectural form, Slessor mentioned that the jury was unanimously impressed by the clarity and grace of the new architecture, while also admiring its potential to transform life in China’s rural margins.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5637602342017370844.post-91616975421250885142010-11-30T19:35:00.002-08:002010-11-30T19:35:14.019-08:00Clark Shoes International, Art installationThis is a fantastic project my brother Yazan, an architect student at Cairo University, shared with me, its a an art installation at Clark shoues international headquarters.The concept is an elaboration of nature- light is only seen when reflected. It's a resturant located in Ramundberget, Sweden.<br />
<br />
Murman have been awarded first prize in the holiday category at the world architecture festival in barcelona, for their design of restaurant tusen in ramundberget, sweden. The facade material is given by the surrounding nature, birch logs stands like a huge protecting screen towards the nordic icy winds. they used the same material for the restaurant in exterior as well as the interior. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The neighborhood BBQ restaurant is so passe and if you are truly adventurous then a stopover at the Restaurant Tusen is a must. More than the food its the architecture of the place that will satiate your palette and the whole credit goes to Swedish architectural office, Murman Arkitekter who also won in the Holiday' category at this year's World Architecture Festival, Barcelona. The striking Restaurant Tusen is part of the Ramundberget ski resort in Sweden and its futuristic form factor is no coincidence. Resembling a modern day fort, the highlight of the restaurant is its bark-covered birch tree frontage that is as hypnotic as the surreal snowy landscape behind it. The round shape is not just a whimsical decision and highlights intelligent design since it gives a panoramic view, lets the snow stay on the facade and even lets the cold winds pass!</div><br />

A state of art, a really inviting space that attracts people. Triangle Park in downtown Saint Louis, Missori, is design by Peter Walker and completed 1999. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPWs4aXKkYI/AAAAAAAAAKY/frPDJCHwvgQ/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="222" ox="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPWs4aXKkYI/AAAAAAAAAKY/frPDJCHwvgQ/s400/3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPWs68eQWbI/AAAAAAAAAKc/upXhC0Cxgcs/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="222" ox="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPWs68eQWbI/AAAAAAAAAKc/upXhC0Cxgcs/s400/2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
This project is an attempt to achieve the presence of the great historic Baroque water and light displays in modern terms and with modern means. A gift to the City of St. Louis from the Gateway Foundation, the park provides plaza space for the Kiel Center, a sports, concert, and convention venue that was unfortunately designed without adjacent outdoor space. A path connects the plaza portion of the park to a new rapid-transit station at the bottom of a gentle hill. Along the path are a series of cast-stone benches with path lights. <span class="tBody"><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"> </span></span><br />
<br />
The semicircular street-side plaza, which also acts as a gateway to the arena, is formed by ten large fog-walls, fourteen feet by fourteen feet by three feet. Each consists of a sandblasted stainless steel frame covered by thirty-six panels of punched stainless steel plates. In addition to a manifold for a mist fountain, each tablet contains an armature of colored fluorescent lights. The yellow, blue, and red lights can be programmed to produce solid colors, stripes, and secondary colors as well as the colors of home or visiting athletic teams; they can also be choreographed for various seasonal celebrations. At night the fog at the center and the colored light at the edges merge in a magic blur, a radiating presence slightly obscured by the perforated scrim of the plates.<br />
<br />
Peter Walker is one of my favorite landscape architect, please click <a href="http://www.pwpla.com/index.php">here</a> if you are intrested in visitng his website.<br />

This 185,000 square foot office building is the centerpiece for The Dulles Town Center and an excellent example of Euro-modern landscape vocabulary. The unique landscape treatments incorporate bold striped hardscape patterns, geometric earthscape planes, a striking pedestrian walkway through the parking field, and imaginative use of LED lighting in bollards and plaza elements. <br />
<br />
The plazas are built over parking structures with radically different stormwater and bio-retention gardens, that are the center of interest for the outdoor café. Everything about 21000 Atlantic Boulevard is state-of-the-art techno-modern office environment.<br />

This project gave my attention when i saw the clean and organic landscape design.<br />
<br />
The desire for this 35 acre setting was to create the illusion that the new buildings were floating within the landscape atop a motionless plane of water. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPW7ZPNn6aI/AAAAAAAAAK4/40l3JibMm2U/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" ox="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPW7ZPNn6aI/AAAAAAAAAK4/40l3JibMm2U/s320/1.jpg" width="290" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPW7aOQqKNI/AAAAAAAAAK8/UD_xzgx2i2o/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="220" ox="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPW7aOQqKNI/AAAAAAAAAK8/UD_xzgx2i2o/s320/2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Places for employee respite and interaction, as well as large gatherings were a strong desire of the client. In response, two courtyards on two different levels were designed to act as reflections of each other and address the programmatic needs of the site. In addition the design offers the user formal and informal water features. A formal water channel moves through the outdoor dining area into a larger, more organic water body that receives stormwater runoff from the site. This new picturesque landscape is a pleasure to view from the executive offices, the pedestrian link, or the dining terrace.<br />

Infill House...<div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Harmony, Contrast, Balance, these are the three words i could describe this one... </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPXA8NZ79_I/AAAAAAAAALM/nArt-ZVx4os/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" ox="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPXA8NZ79_I/AAAAAAAAALM/nArt-ZVx4os/s400/2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Infill House, on the slopes of Signal Hill above Bantry Bay in Cape Town, sits on a site that has breathtaking views up the mountain and across the Atlantic. The clients requested a comfortable, functional house for easy-living with a simple and natural exterior that, while timeless, was also daring and unusual. The house sits in harmony with the landscape and its magnificent setting.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPXBDwLynRI/AAAAAAAAALQ/9JPK0Ye2aVg/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" ox="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPXBDwLynRI/AAAAAAAAALQ/9JPK0Ye2aVg/s400/3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPXBFR8h1HI/AAAAAAAAALU/Okq1iFOSkcY/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" ox="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPXBFR8h1HI/AAAAAAAAALU/Okq1iFOSkcY/s400/1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPXBGajqpVI/AAAAAAAAALY/YoS-nMDqWPI/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="231" ox="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pkSs7HLGaeQ/TPXBGajqpVI/AAAAAAAAALY/YoS-nMDqWPI/s400/4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">The design has two long boxes arranged around a courtyard connected by a circulation block of modular exposed concrete. Sea views are revealed from an extensive entrance hall where a top-lit stairway descends to the two lower levels, becoming lighter and more transparent as solid walls give way to a beautifully crafted oak balustrade and screen. Sunlight and air is controlled passively by way of sliding doors and timber screens. The relationship with nature is enforced by a selection of strip windows that frame views and the courtyard with White Stinkwoods that give testament to the seasons.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

This artistic design form brings respect, harmony, and material balance on site. I wanted to post this for the unique design theme that Robert shaped it in nature.<br />
<br />
Robert design was built in the forests of Portland, Oregon. Designed in 1997 and completed in 2004, the Wilkinson Residence is in perfect harmony with its surroundings. Built on a steep sloping lot, the living space resides amongst the forest canopy, making your morning coffee most enjoyable. With more curves than Lombard Street, the Wilkinson Residence is a property you have to see to believe.<br />

A lover of music, the client wanted a house that not only became part of the natural landscape but also addressed the flow of music. This house evades the mechanics of the camera; it is difficult to capture the way the interior space flows seamlessly through to the exterior. One must actually stroll through the house to grasp its complexities and its connection to the exterior. One example is a natural wood ceiling, floating on curved laminated wood beams, passing through a generous glass wall which wraps around the main living room.<br />

<br />
"The site is located at the Aiken Village site on the campus of MSU. The goal is to create a sustainable development that not only acts as an entry to the campus but looks at utilizing the stormwater as an amenity for the campus in terms of aesthetics and educational opportunities." Taze Fulford, Class Instructor<br />

The concept statement is to create a natural organic form that displays sustainability in a relaxed environment with water that could integrate the totality of the site.<br />

The design process is based on creating a cohousing community that focuses on three objects. First, residents will explore several ways to live in an ecological environment such as providing a suitable storm-water management. Second, Residents will participate in several activities to develop the community itself. Third, residents will educate the public about how this community manages their environment</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5637602342017370844.post-45061856594092448072010-11-28T12:17:00.000-08:002010-11-28T12:17:31.709-08:00How to ArchitectThis post is about a Doug Patt, a registered architect in the building industry specializing in high-end residential architecture.<br />
<br />
Doug has <a href="http://howtoarchitect.com/">posted really interesting videos and some art work</a> that he did on his website, illustrating the purpose of being an architect, i know that I'm a landscape architect and he is an architect, but what i am looking for is his passion and the dedication that he gave to the profession, and i wish that some other design professionals could really appreciate and respect the relationship between - for example - architecture and landscape architecture.<br />
Anyway, the whole point of this, I just wanted to share this with everyone, and show this guy's passion to architecture.<br />
<br />
A small funny video of him, describing the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lak7AZnkVV8">top 10 things you'll never hear an architect say</a>.<br />

The plan is to build manufacturing plants around the Sahara Desert and extract silica from sand to make solar panels, which will then be used to build solar power plants in the desert. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">The power generated by the initial plant or plants would be used to “breed” more silicon manufacturing and solar power plants, which will in turn be used to breed more again, and so on. The ultimate goal is to build enough plants to provide 50 percent of the world’s electricity by 2050, which would be delivered via a global superconducting supergrid.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">To turn the world’s biggest desert into the world’s biggest power station the Sahara Solar Breeder Project aims to take advantage of two resources that are found in abundance in the Sahara – silica and sunlight. However, to make such an ambitious plan a reality there are more than a few hurdles that will need to be overcome. For example, there is currently no technology for making silicon from desert sand, then using it to make solar cells. Also, connecting the desert power supply to the world will require cables that must be cooled with liquid nitrogen and placed underground to minimize temperature fluctuations.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

The people who live there have different educational backgrounds, share values like ecology and sustainability, and also a wish to live within a social community based on respect and tolerance. One communal waste station was established, which ensures the village’s waste gets sorted out in all the appropriate fractions. In the summer of 2009 a ”waste shed” was built, a 20-meter long waste station on the parking lot. In the waste shed the community sorts out the waste in more than 20 fractions. They have a waste management group, who takes care of getting the waste, and is picked up to the local recycling station.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

Recycling<br />
In the waste shed the village has a recycling shop, where they can hand in clothes, shoes, toys etc. for others to take free of charge. This helps to minimize waste and ensures recycling.<br />
<br />
Communal farming<br />
Quite a few people in the village participate in the communal cultivation of the veggie plot, in which a few hundred Danish crowns and some 40 odd hours of labor during the cultivating season provides some fruits and veggies all year, as well as a chance to meet and socialize with veggie growers.<br />
<br />
Personal veggie plots<br />
In addition to the communal field, there are several small personal gardens where one is free to grow a little extra or something completely different, often these are closer to the houses.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
